Buying natural turquoise (feroza): what matters

  • Colour — from sky blue to green-blue. An even, strong blue is the most wanted.
  • Matrix — thin brown or black veins are the natural host rock. Some buyers love them, others prefer clean blue.
  • Treatment — turquoise is soft and porous, so it's often stabilised to make it stronger. We state it where we know.
  • Hardness — about 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale, so it needs gentle care.

Caring for feroza stone

Keep it away from water, perfume, oils and cleaning products — they can change its colour over time. Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth.
